๐ŸŒฑ Sabja Seeds | How to Soak Basil/Falooda Seeds

Sabja seeds (also called basil seeds, falooda seeds, or tukmaria) are mildly fragrant and create a gelatinous texture when soaked. They are commonly used in drinks, desserts, and mocktails.

⏱️ Time Required

  • Prep & Soak Time: 30 minutes

  • Total Time: 30 minutes

๐Ÿถ Yield

  • About 1 small bowl of soaked seeds

๐Ÿงพ Ingredients

  • ½ tablespoon sabja seeds (or as required)

  • ¾–1 cup water

๐Ÿฅค Instructions

  1. Pick through the sabja seeds to remove any chaff, husks, or stones.

  2. Optionally, rinse the seeds in a fine strainer.

  3. Place the seeds in a bowl and add enough water (¾–1 cup) to allow them to absorb fully.

    • Tip: Adding extra water prevents the seeds from clumping together.

  4. Let the seeds soak for 20–30 minutes.

  5. The seeds will swell and form a translucent, gelatinous coating.

  6. Drain the seeds and use them in drinks, sherbets, ice creams, falooda, or kulfi.

  7. Store any leftover soaked seeds in the refrigerator for 1–2 days.
